A blast occured at Varanasi's Shitla Ghat during the Ganga Aarti. Many people including foreign tourists are reported to have been injured in the blast.
Many foreigners are reported to have been injured in the explosion that took place during the 'Ganga Arti' ceremony.
The explosion took place at Shitla Ghaat where the daily aarti or prayers are offered. The explosion reportedly took place just as the aarti finished. Reports suggest the blast took place around 6:25 pm.
Southern portion of Dashasvamedh Ghat is known as Sheetla Ghat. This is named after the famous Sheetla temple located on this Ghat.
There were at least 5000 people at the ghats to watch the aarti, which begins at 5:40 pm everyday.
